Running Club
Why Evergreen?
Evergreen Running Club is a brand new USA Track & Field (USATF) club offering a full Track and Field season in the Spring and Cross Country in the Fall. The club will be kickstarted in February 2020. The team is open to youth ages 10 to 17 (18 if still in High School). Evergreen is an excellent opportunity to discover the many benefits of running, racing and team cooperation.
Practices
Practices are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00 to 6:30pm at El Dorado High School. Practices will start with a dynamic warm up and strength building exercises followed by a strategic workout and finishing with cool-down stretches. Short lessons on runners health topics such as nutrition, injury prevention, form and strategy will be included into each practice.
Meets
Meets are typically on Saturdays and spread across the greater Sacramento area. See Events and Calendar for more info. The team will be competing in track events only to start with. Track events include the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 3000m, 2000m, 4x100m Relay, 4x400m Relay, and 4x800m Relay.
Evergreen Stags Membership Requirements:
- Membership Application, completely filled out and signed by parent/guardian.
- On approval of application, Membership Dues ($250) to participate in club practices and events.
- A copy of the athlete’s current Sports Physical Examination Report.
Coach and Staff
Coach
Melissa McKelvey is the founder and first coach of ERC. She competed in cross country and track & field for El Dorado High School and Simpson University then went on to coach both sports at Sierra Ridge Middle School where she has been for 5 years.
Advisers and Supporters
El Dorado High School cross country and track & field coaches Peanut and Tena Harms contribute to the club as advisers offering a wealth of resources and support.
Also, Maura Kent of Revolution Express Track Club in Roseville has generously contributed a great amount of information and resources to help kickstart the club.
